REMOTE RESPITE PROGRAM

Group care sessions enabling caregivers to rest and focus on well-being.

AIHS is pleased to have been awarded $100,000 in grant funding from the Alzheimer's Association, which will be used to enhance dementia-specific respite care for residents throughout northeast Indiana.

 

The Remote Respite Program is designed for individuals living with memory loss, facilitated by dementia-trained staff who emphasize person-centered care. This program offers caregivers valuable time to focus on their own well-being.

Group respite sessions occur one day per week from 1:00 - 4:00pm at the following locations:

  • Steuben County Council on Aging (1905 Wohlert Street, Angola, IN 46703)

  • Whitley County Council on Aging (710 Opportunity Drive, Columbia City, IN 46725)

 

Group respite sessions occur one day per week at each location. More information to come.

This program is available to individuals who:

  • Reside in Adams, DeKalb, Huntington, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, Wells or Whitley County

  • Are living with memory loss

  • Are able to benefit from a group setting

  • Do not need assistance with activities of daily living

  • Are able to provide their own transportation

 

Purpose of Dementia-Specific Respite Care

  • Many caregivers feel they cannot leave the person living with dementia in the care of others. Dementia-specific respite services provide peace of mind, offering high-quality, compassionate care in a safe and supportive environment.​

  • By utilizing respite care services, caregivers can focus on their own well-being—reducing stress, preventing burnout and maintaining a healthier balance in their lives.

  • Respite care services are available in various settings, including:

    • In-home care, where trained professionals provide personalized support.

    • Adult day centers, offering structured activities and social engagement

    • Community-based programs, designed to meet unique cultural and individual needs.​
