If you are a Medicare beneficiary, chances are you have heard about all the Medicare fraud schemes going around on the news. Medicare is complicated enough as it is, and navigating these schemes may be challenging. How can you defend yourself from fraud when you don’t even understand all the nuances of Medicare itself?

Fortunately, there are a few simple tips you can follow to reduce the risk of falling victim to fraud. The best part? You don’t have to be an expert in Medicare to use them!

Medicare Fraud Prevention Tips

Medicare fraud assumes criminal intent, meaning that a scammer is intentionally deceiving you in attempt to receive some sort of unauthorized benefit.

If you see a suspicious charge on your MSN or discover evidence of fraud, don’t panic! There may have been a misunderstanding about your benefits, or the provider may have simply made a mistake when recording the services or supplies you received.
